I was pulling out of a parking lot onto a divided 4 lane highway. Was accelerating and when I reached about 35 ?? mph I heard a clunk and was dead on the road in the middle of traffic. The gas engine reved but the car was just drifting. At that particular location there was no shoulder because of a complicated intersection of several roads. My wife freaked and I was able to drift to a right turn at the intersection to get off the highway by pressing the gas and causing the gasoline engine to have a minimal effect on movement. Scary indeed! Loved the car until this happened. Dealer Quoted $19,000 !!!! to repair. Died laughing. Opened a case w/ Toyota and after 2 weeks was completely rejected ("not their problem"). Wow! After they advertise with "customers" getting 200 - 400,000 miles! After advertising "1 million dollars a day on safety" Apparently the technician is looking just at the error codes and indicates the "whole system is shot" meaning inverter and hyrid drive. Apparently the techs don't go deeper in repair other than remove and replace the whole system. I'm upset - yes the car is out of warranty -- but how could any one part be worth more than 1/2 the cost of the car when new??? My only hope is to paint it yellow, put a lemon sign on it, and put it on my front lawn.
